Quillbook Office LLC has been keeping the books for American small businesses since 2016. We are deliberately small, deliberately local, and deliberately boring about deadlines.
Owner & principal
Elizabeth Miller
Elizabeth spent eleven years inside the finance departments of two upstate New York manufacturers before opening Quillbook Office in 2016. She had watched the same thing happen repeatedly: capable owners making decisions on numbers that were three months stale, because bookkeeping was somebody's fourth priority.
The practice was built around a single rule — the books close on schedule, every month, whatever else is happening. Elizabeth still personally reviews every client file before it is released, and she is the person who answers the phone on a first call.
She is a member of the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers and works with a network of independent CPAs across New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut for the tax work we do not perform ourselves.

What we believe
Four positions that shape how the practice runs.
Deadlines are the product
An accurate report delivered six weeks late has no decision value. The close date is fixed and we plan capacity around it.
Plain language
If a client cannot explain their own report back to us, we wrote it badly. Jargon is a failure of communication, not a sign of expertise.
Scope in writing
Every engagement lists what is included and what is not. Disputes almost always start with an assumption nobody wrote down.
Stay small
We cap the client list. Growth beyond what the principal can personally review would change the thing clients hired us for.
The office
We work from a converted brownstone on Washington Street in downtown Albany, a few minutes from the Capitol. Clients in the Capital Region are welcome to come in — several do, once a quarter, with a folder of receipts and a coffee. Everyone else works with us remotely, which is roughly two thirds of the practice.
